Welcome to the Family

We would like to welcome Piper to the family! She is a 4 month old Biewer terrier and has fit in great so far. Duke doesn't really care either way and tends to ignore her, while Jax and her had issues at first and now they play and wrestle alot!

I know it is really hard to see, but this is a picture of Duke eating on the deck. In the back by the retaining way is our resident bunny, so thinks it is totally fine to eat the bird seed while Duke is about 10 feet away.....

FYI: Duke's lead that he is connected to would not be able to reach the bunny, but would get very close...

Bessie & Barnie

Bessie & Barnie Sofa Bed

I LOVE Bessie & Barnie Dog Beds. Duke has two of them in the bagel shape and I've been wanting one for Jax, but he isn't a big fan of laying on actual dog beds, so I didn't want to get one and have it sitting around without being used.

Jax does like laying on furniture though- couches, chairs, etc. Bessie & Barnie has a sofa bed option that I thought I would try.

1. It is furniture like- which he enjoys sleeping on and wrestling with his mice in.
2. It would look super cute in the living, so even if he doesn't use it, it will still look nice (FYI: He is currently sleeping on the couch, next to me while I type...)

So far we have had to for 3 days. He has slept in it a handful of times and has played with his mice in it a handful of time.

Seat Belt Harnesses for Dogs

It terrifies me when I see small dogs sticking their heads out a very open car window or large dogs in the back of pick up trunks. While I know that most dogs have no issues, it makes me sad for those that happen to hit a bump and end up injured or worse.

I think that there is a reason why us humans have laws for seats belts- it is for our safety. I think that when we drive we should also think about our pets safety.

If you do not have your dog in a dog carrier , dog crate, or dog car seat you really should think about giving them a dog seat belt.

Not only will these save your dog if you were to be in an accident, but they can also prevent distractions because your dog will no longer be able to climb where ever they please.

At Poochieheaven we recently got in two new types of dog carriers.

They are made by Bergan and are great for airline travel. They are not flashy and will not work as a discreet carrier, but they are great for traveling. Whether you are going to the vet, daycare, grandparents, or on a plane, these carriers will get the job done.

There are two types- one with wheels and one without wheels.

HH Backer Spring Show

This past weekend I went out to Baltimore to the H.H. Backer Spring Show. It is a trade show where vendors go to showcase their products.

Besides having to stay another night because my flight got delayed it was a good trip.

Below are a sampling of new items that we will soon have at Poochieheaven.

Dog Carriers- We have two options of dog carriers. They are a standard dog carrier in blue and pink along with a wheeled dog carrier for large dogs in black. They are not fancy or expensive carriers, but will be great for airline trips or trips to the vet.

Dog Collars- We ordered new collars from two vendors. One is the common ribbon and nylon collars. We ordered some great novelty prints, so those looking for a cabin themed collar or want to go edgy with skulls, watch our website in the next 2 weeks for them to be added. The other collars we ordered are fabulous leather collars with Swarovski crystals and studs. They are absolutely stunning. They are mostly for large dogs, so those big dogs will be getting some love!

Supplements for Dogs- The more I learn about dog nutrition the more I realize that there are certain dog supplements that will greatly benefit your dog (just like the vitamins you take). We ordered some great organic and all natural supplements that will help with your dog's joints, UTIs, fish oil, and more. These are all made in the USA and are used by many of the top show dogs in the country.

Dog Car Seat Covers- With Spring and soon Summer upon us you will be traveling with your dog more and will want to protect your dog. We have new one of a kind fabrics for dog car seat covers. Along with this are new dog seat belts that are unlike any other on the market.

Grooming your Long Haired Dog

Yorkies, chihuahuas, Lhasa apsos, and Maltese have such beautiful coats, especially when it is long. But these long, beautiful coats can also cause many problems for their owners. It you don't want to cut it, below are some solutions to help keep it looking nice.

1. Brush your dog at home every day. Set aside a time each day and make it a routine. Brush your dog for five minutes, this will help to keep mats out. Don't be afraid to trim a small area if it is getting to difficult to groom, it will grow back! Brushing is one of the easiest things you can do to keep your dog's coat in good condition.

2. Feed high quality food. Good coat and skin start from within. If you feed junk, it will look like junk. Another good thing is a fish oil or coconut oil for dogs. This will also help with their skin and coat.

3. When bathing your dog, use a shampoo and conditioner that is made for dogs with long hair. This will help to keep it in pristine shape.

4. Invest in some dog hair barrettes. These will allow you to keep your dog's hair out of their face. It will also help with keeping their hair clean from when they eat.
